Every week, my visitors email me and ask all sorts of questions. I enjoy this very much, because it gives me a chance to meet people like you and learn a little bit about your families. The web is usually such an impersonal entity. I find it refreshing to meet you and maybe make a difference in your life, or especially one of your childrens' lives.

One of the most frequent things I hear involves the family practitioner not having enough information or experience to deal with severe milk allergy. General practitioners sometimes have to have such a broad knowledgebase that they cannot possibly know everything about every single ailment that comes their way. Usually, if they cannot solve the problem themselves, they will refer you to a specialist. I cannot stress enough the importance of seeking the proper medical advice. Allergists and nutritionists are absolutely worth their weight in gold to those of us with food allergies.

If you are convinced that you or your child has a milk allergy, even if your family doctor seems to have it under control, ask about an allergist he might recommend. Your doctor will not be offended by this. An allergist will be able to identify all of your allergies... If you have a milk or other food allergy, the likelihood of your having other allergies is very, very high. The more "lesser" allergies that can be controlled, the easier it is for your body to deal with the more severe ones.

If you are indeed diagnosed with a milk allergy, and your doctor and allergist have developed a plan to control it, your next step should be to visit a nutritionist. This is more important than you might think. Even if you buy all of the cookbooks, visit all of the websites, and read every book on the topic that you can find, you will still have little idea of how to replace the nutrients that you or your child is missing because of the milk or other food allergy.. (again, very often, milk allergy is accompanied by other allergies... many of the common ones are other foods).

Between a nutritionist, and some creative cooking ideas, you will be able to feed your family pallatable meals that lack nothing. You won't have to go without anything that you like. You won't have to worry about not having the proper nutrition. After a while, you won't even think twice about the changes you have had to make in your household to accomodate an allergy, because you or your child will be healthy. That is worth it all.

If you have any questions or related comments, please e-mail me and I promise that you will hear back from me. May God bless you and your children.
